Twenty (20) staff from the National Judicial Staff Services were reminded to maintain their integrity and uphold ethical values in their line of work.

Justice Dr. John Carey delivered this message to the participants during a one-day Ethics and Integrity workshop at the PNG Centre for Judicial Excellence training room yesterday.

“Ethical conduct at a personal level will lead to moral behavior as a profession,” Justice Dr. Carey said.

He said ethics was about doing right, and that being such should come from the heart.

“We must uphold the ethical values of honesty, integrity and respect in our working environment,” Justice Dr. Carey said.

“We must not misuse facilities that belong to the institution.

Justice Dr. Carey told the staff to always abide by the rules given and reminded them to always uphold the integrity of the institution they were working for.

Staff discussed and were trained on the following topics:

1. What is ethics and integrity?

2. Why ethics and integrity is important in the workplace; and

3. The components of ethics and integrity.

Secretary to Justice Dr. Carey, Ms. Rakana Varage-Manoka said she was privileged to attend such workshop as it was the first and thanked the facilitator for organizing the workshop.

“In my previous employment I had never attended such a workshop on how to develop strong work ethics, and for me to attend this, is such a great privilege, and I know the other participants are also privileged to attend,” she said.

The workshop ended on a high note of role plays and discussions between the participants.
