On Day 2, 12 June, Justice Carey delivered his presentation on “Judicial Independence and Democratic Resilience in The Bahamas.” His address highlighted the critical role of an independent judiciary in safeguarding democratic institutions and ensuring the rule of law.
As Judge Administrator of PNGCJE, Justice Carey’s participation reflected the Centre’s commitment to fostering judicial excellence, promoting professional development, and engaging with international partners to share best practices. His involvement in this seminar provided valuable opportunities to strengthen judicial education and resilience in Papua New Guinea through exposure to global perspectives.
Speaking ahead of the seminar, Justice Carey said: “Judicial independence is the cornerstone of democracy. By sharing experiences across jurisdictions, we not only strengthen our own institutions but also contribute to a global dialogue on resilience and the rule of law.”
The Bahamas Bar Association’s Annual Training Days was a flagship event designed to provide continuing legal education and professional development for members of the Bar. Each year, the seminar featured distinguished speakers and interactive sessions addressing pressing issues in law, governance, and civil society. Alongside the seminar, the Association organized community activities such as sports and fellowship. These activities highlighted the Association’s dedication to both professional excellence and community enrichment.
