Deputy President of the Industrial Court of Queensland and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission to present at UPNG

The Papua New Guinea Centre for Judicial Excellence (Centre) is proud to announce the second Sir Buri Kidu Lecture presentation at the University of Papua New Guinea this Wednesday 26 June 2024. The lecture will commence at 5:30 pm and will be hosted at the UPNG New Lecture Theatre at the Waigani Campus. The target audience for this lecture will include Judges, Lawyers, Law students, other professionals and the public.

The Sir Buri Kidu Lecture Series, conducted by the Papua New Guinea Centre for Judicial Excellence (PNGCJE) in partnership with the UPNG School of Law, has been running for several years. The series features distinguished guest speakers who address a variety of topics relevant to the Judiciary, academia, and the legal fraternity.

The upcoming lecture presentation will feature Ms. Catherine Hartigan, Deputy President of the Industrial Court of Queensland and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. Her presentation is titled “The Changing Landscape of Employment Contracts in Australia and Papua New Guinea.”

Ms. Catherine Hartigan was recently sworn in as Deputy President of the Industrial Court of Queensland and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. Prior to this role, she served as a Commissioner of the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

Ms. Catherine Hartigan has broad ranging experience in employment and public law, appearing regularly in matters involving employment, industrial cases, discrimination, health and safety, coronial inquests, disciplinary proceedings, commissions of inquiry, tribunal work, and mediations.

Until her appointment, Ms. Hartigan was a serving member of the Industrial Law Committee of the Bar Association of Queensland and was a frequent presenter at seminars and conferences for the Bar Association of Queensland, Law Society of Queensland and in-house legal seminars.

The Sir Buri Kidu lecture will conclude with a question-and-answer session, followed by light refreshments.
