Financial Literacy Course for Court Staff in Popondetta

Oro Provincial NJSS, Magisterial Services and Department of Justice and Attorney General staff recently attended a Financial Literacy workshop on the 24 to 25 May 2022.

Sixteen (16) officers had attended the training which was presented by PNGCJE Finance Manager Mr. Gitu Lago. Also accompanying Mr. Lago were PNGCJE Executive Director Dr. John Carey and Program Officer Mr. Peter Michael.

Mr. Michael delivered the first session of the workshop by introducing attendees to the roles and responsibilities of the PNGCJE. He spoke briefly on the core function of the PNGCJE and its process of designing and developing judicial education and training curriculum.

After the introductory presentation, lead facilitator Mr. Gitu Lago took participants through the main sessions of the workshop.

Mr. Lago informed the attendees that the purpose of the training session was to equip staff with the necessary knowledge and skills needed in making important financial decisions pertaining to managing income and expenses, budgeting and investing money.

Mr. Lago also spoke on the topic of stock markets, small and medium enterprises, loans and debts. He stated that it is important that attendees learn about how loan repayments are calculated by the banks or financial institutions so that they can make well-informed and effective financial decisions about taking out loans.

The training was the last of a series of Financial Literacy workshops conducted by the PNGCJE for Court staff.
