Chief Justice attends regional Chief Justices meeting in Fiji

The Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea Sir Gibbs Salika, Justice Sir Kina Bona and Justice Daniel Liosi were in Fiji last week to attend the regional Chief Justices meeting on cybercrime and electronic evidence.

The Chief Justices meeting involved judicial training which was organized by the PNG Centre for Judicial Excellence (PNGCJE), the Council of Europe through the Council of Europe Cybercrime Programme Office, the GLACY-e and Octopus projects and hosted by the Supreme Court of Fiji.

The high-level meeting was held from November 5th-7th, 2024 in Sigatoka, Fiji.

The event brought together 12 Chief Justices and High Court Justices from the Pacific region to improve co-operation in the fight against cybercriminal activities resulting from the digital transformation of the region.

It was aimed to increase participants’ knowledge of international legal standards and best practices on adjudicating cybercrime cases and the admissibility of electronic evidence in courts.

The meeting served as an occasion for the representatives of the judiciary and prosecution services to discuss and identify sustainable judicial training programmes on cybercrime and electronic evidence.

The workshop was also an opportunity to increase understanding of the needs and challenges for criminal justice authorities when dealing with cybercrime cases and electronic evidence.
