PNGCJE Judge Administrator meets with Commonwealth Lawyers Association Leadership in Fiji

Justice John Carey, Judge Administrator for the Papua New Guinea Centre for Judicial Excellence (PNGCJE), is currently attending the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in Nadi, Fiji.

On the sidelines of the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting, Justice Carey met with Mr. Steven Thiru, President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), and Ms. Brigid Watson, CLA Secretary General.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, including:

· The central role of the rule of law in sustaining democratic societies;

· The importance of continuing legal education in strengthening judicial capacity; and

· Opportunities for future collaboration between PNGCJE and the CLA.

This engagement signifies PNGCJE’s commitment to building stronger international partnerships and aligning with global best practices. By connecting with the CLA leadership, PNGCJE is well-positioned to:

· Enhance professional development opportunities for judges and lawyers in Papua New Guinea;

· Contribute to regional and global dialogue on upholding the rule of law; and

· Expand collaboration with one of the Commonwealth’s leading legal associations.

Speaking after the meeting, the Judge Administrator said:

“Our dialogue with the Commonwealth Lawyers Association leadership reinforces the importance of judicial excellence and the rule of law in democratic societies. PNGCJE is committed to continuing legal education and looks forward to deepening collaboration with the CLA to strengthen our judiciary and contribute meaningfully to the Commonwealth legal community.”

Justice Carey added that PNGCJE looks forward to building on this dialogue and working closely with the CLA to enhance judicial excellence and foster stronger partnerships in the years ahead.
